Set defaults and inheritance

Set a default to reduce repetitive choices when you queue a task. The effective default is always an enabled, available entry; it never overrides organization policy.

1. Open Coding agents at the personal, organization, or project scope.
2. Find an enabled entry and select Make default.
3. To remove a project default, select Use inherited default. Organization defaults can be cleared from the organization list. Personal settings currently let you choose or replace a personal default, but do not offer a clear-default action.

If an entry is disabled, hidden in the project, deleted, or excluded by policy, it is not selected as a default.

For a project, alterac.ai checks eligible defaults in this order:

1. Your personal default, when personal definitions and personal defaults are allowed.
2. The project default, when project defaults are allowed.
3. The organization default.

If none is available, you choose an enabled available entry when queueing. A new personal entry becomes your personal default if you have none. A new organization or project entry can become a default only when no usable default is already available at that scope.

Organization owners and admins can open Organization settings and use Organization coding agents policy to control:

• Whether project leads can create and use project-owned entries.
• Whether projects can hide organization coding agents.
• Whether projects can set their own default coding agents.
• Whether members can use personal coding agents and personal default coding agents in the organization.

Policy changes affect what a project can select without deleting personal or project data. For example, turning off personal coding agents removes those entries from that organization's project choices but leaves them in each member's account. Turning off project-owned entries shows existing project entries as disabled and prevents new selection until the policy is restored.

Open a project's Coding agents page to see organization and project entries together, the current default, and the organization policy summary. Then queue a task to confirm the selected command preview. Command-template rules explain what the preview preserves before launch.
